Welcome!

Dear Friend,

We just passed our budget on time (actually, earlier than expected) for the second year in a row. The wind is at my back. Midway through the 2012 legislative session, I am very busy working to get important legislation passed.  This year, I have much to be excited about:
  • The Assembly put Microstamping in their budget proposal this year. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the final budget. However, it was progress and I continue to work for Microstamping’s passage.
  • I’ve been elected to co-chair SLAIG (State Legislators Against Illegal Guns), and we have already done two successful programs this year.
  • I was honored to be a key note speaker for the Nassau County League of Women Voters.
  • I am delighted to be receiving the Geraldine A. Ferraro “Award for Courage” from the Long Island Women’s Democratic Caucus, along with my good friend Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy.

Despite a good outlook for this legislative session, I am still a target because I am outspoken about the work I do in the Assembly. Already this year, I’ve been targeted by the gun lobby.  According to the Plattsburgh Press Republican, I am the “point person” on gun control.

I am proud of the work I do, but I can‘t take anything for granted. I am up for re-election this year, please stay tuned to this website for updates on the campaign. If you are looking for my Assembly website, please visit it by going to: http://assembly.state.ny.us/mem/Michelle-Schimel. You can also follow me on Facebook and Twitter for more immediate news on what we are doing.

Spring is here and I am ready to run. I still love my job, but you know that already.

Best,

Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, District 16
